This week in speech we have been using the Ice Cream Scoop Speech Craft targeting R blends and S blends in a hands-on, low-prep way that keeps kids engaged and moving through lots of repetitions!

In the photos, we:

🖍️ Colored each target word scoop

✂️ Cut out the scoops and cones

🍦 Built our own giant ice cream cones by stacking the words

Target words include:

BR: bridge, branch, broccoli, brush, bread, brown, broom
TR: tree, trap, train
SCR: screen, screw, scramble
STR: straw, string, strap
SPR: spring
SQ: squid, squiggle

Ways to Use This Activity

✨ Say the word every time you add a scoop.

✨ Roll a die and say the word that many times before stacking it.

✨ Pull a scoop from a pile and use the word in a sentence.

✨ Describe the picture ("The squid is pink.") for extra language practice.

✨ Race to build the tallest cone while getting high repetitions.

✨ Hide the scoops around the room for a speech scavenger hunt.

This activity works beautifully for:

✔️ Summer sessions

✔️ Home practice packets

✔️ Preschool and early elementary students
